About Us

The Consumer Education Council of North America (CECNA) is a not-for-profit membership organization headquartered in Northern Virginia, USA. Our goal is to provide information, news, training, tools and research to ensure that consumers have access to objective, accurate and actionable information about essential products and services.  

Founded in 2020 by veteran consumer activist and journalist James R. Hood, CECNA achieves its goal by publishing actionable information and establishing standards and qualifications for the businesses and non-profits that interact with consumers in their quest for safe, reliable and economical products and services.

Certified Expert

CEC’NAs Certified Expert program trains salespeople, customer service representatives (CSR) and others who routinely come into contact with consumers who are seeking information about products and services. .

Other activities

CECNA also produces CSR training programs in more general areas, including Truth in Lending, advertising regulation, warranties, product safety and federal and state consumer protection laws. 

Additionally, CECNA publishes educational material including email newsletters, webinars and videos for its member companies and for consumers. 


CECNA is governed by a Board of Directors elected to three-year terms. A Board of Advisors provides oversight and counsel, with committees established in each subject area of interest. 


CECNA is funded through corporate memberships, through fees charged for its training and certification programs and through donations from consumers. Corporate members and sponsors are eligible to participate in training and certification programs and are CECNA’s partners in working towards corporate social responsibility and compliance with relevant legal and regulatory standards.
